Two Dogs Found Starving and Abused in Coachella Valley

Tundra

Tundra

When rescuers came across Tundra in an open field, it wasn’t difficult to tell that this dog was in a dire situation.  They suspect that he had his mouth taped shut, and he was left to starve.  There was also a lot of damage to his throat, possibly from being forced to drink acid.

Triton was also unbelievably emaciated, and showed bite marks all over his body, leading rescuers to believe that he was being used as a bait dog.  One of this poor fellow’s legs was so badly infected, it was beginning to rot.

They had both been found out in the eastern Coachella Valley, California.  They were rescued and brought to San Diego, and are under the care of It’s the Pits dog rescue.

“All I know is, when he came in he was literally just hours away from death,” said Beth Gruff, president of It’s the Pits of Tundra.  “He’s a walking bag of bones.  The skin is hanging on his body.”

Tundra is believed to be a 2-year-ol American bulldog or possibly a pit bull terrier.  Triton is believed to be a 1-year-old Dogo Argentino.

When Tundra had been weighed, he came in at only forty pounds, which is about thirty pounds underweight.  He’s been through over $20,000 in treatments and still has a very long road ahead of him.

According to Gruff, “He’s still weak, but he walks.”

Triton

Triton

When Triton had been located not far from where Tundra had been found, it was clear that this dog has also been through hell and back again.  Covered in bite marks and dried blood, it was almost certain that Triton had been used as a bait dog in a dog fighting ring.

Even after all he’s been put through, he still has a friendly personality towards people and other animals.  Gruff had said they believe that Triton is just about ready to find that forever home he so greatly deserves.

It’s unclear who exactly is responsible for the neglect and abuse of both of these poor souls.  An investigation is currently underway.

If you are interested in more information, or wish to possibly adopt Triton, you can check out wither of their Facebook pages by clicking here, or here.  Also, you can call It’s the Pits directly at 858-220-7546.  Donations to go towards Tundra’s continuing care are still being accepted.
