The Central Oklahoma Humane Society is hosting a very unique event at 7pm on Saturday, September 27th. Their first every Pet Hero Award will honor three adopted pets in Oklahoma as part of the inaugural OK Humane Hero Awards, which will take place at 7 p.m. at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel, located at 1 Park Ave. in downtown Oklahoma City.
The purpose of this event is to highlight and celebrate those dogs who survived seemingly insurmountable odds and who have saved the life of a human or another animal or provided excellent service to the community.
In July, 2013, Wilbur was found abandoned on a driveway, cooped up in a small kennel with several cats. He and the cats were in bad shape but had at least been dropped off in a public place where they would be found.
Rover, a 3 year old Chihuahua, has recently had a dramatic change in his life circumstances. Rover’s luck had practically run out when he was found as a stray in one of the local shelters. He had injured his foot and it appeared he would need an amputation, an operation that the local shelter did not have money for.
Jema is a 4 year old pit bull mix who happens to be deaf. She arrived at 4 Luv of Dog Rescue (located in Fargo, North Dakota) nearly two years ago from a regional pound where she would otherwise have been euthanized because of her disability.
This military style rescue mission took Eldad Hagar of Hope for Paws three days and involved driving more than 1,000 miles and an unyielding willpower to save four dogs that would have otherwise died from infections or starvation in the Mojave Desert.
