For seven Chicago pet families, Wednesday, February 18, 2015, is a day they don’t ever want to relive again. Their pets were inside an unmarked Urban Out Sitters’s doggy day care van when two thieves approached the car, hijacked it, and took off with seven dogs. All dogs were found safe the following day, but their owners feared they will never see their pets alive again.
Carmen, a nine-year-old boxer, has recovered enough to go home with her human uncle after being pulled from the house fire that killed her dad. When she was found, she was lying on top of her dad’s face, trying to shield him from the smoke and fire.
The heroine’s homecoming is bittersweet for Phil Ledford, whose brother’s life was tragically claimed by the February 5th fire that ravaged his Ohio house.
