On July 23, 2014, an abandoned and malnourished three-year-old American Bulldog mix was found in great need, roaming the streets of Southwest Miami-Dade, Fla. The dog has been named Nikkos and suffers from Masticatory Myositis, an autoimmune disorder in which the tissues of the jaw become so inflamed, that the dog cannot open his mouth to eat or drink. Nikkos was slowly starving to death.

When found, he weighed 44 lbs. when his normal weight should be 65 lbs.

Would you cross four lanes of speeding traffic on a highway to rescue a dog that has been hit by a car? Vero Salgado, a woman in Mexico did just that, when she saw a German shepherd mix taking cover along the expressway’s median.

In Melbourne, Australia, a 20-year-old man was standing on Brighton Pier for a memorial scattering of his grandmother’s ashes when he was called into action to rescue a Maltese-shitzu dog that had been blown off of the pier by gale force winds.

Dogs do amazing things to assist their families sometimes.  We hear about heroic service dogs, specially trained to detect some health or wellbeing issue for their owners far before any medical technology ever could.  Often, we hear of brave dogs, serving alongside our troops overseas.  You even hear stories of dogs traveling miles and miles just to be reunited with the ones they love.  Yes, dogs are amazing creatures of this world indeed.

I have never seen such a polite dog.

After he comes in from outdoor playing, he wipes his feet to make sure he doesn’t bring any dirt into the house.
