Anyone who has seen a loved one go through the horrors of Alzheimer’s disease, knows just how brutal the condition can be. Lisa Abeyta’s father knows this suffering first hand. There is, however, one thing that seems to be helping. The family dog.
According to authorities in the Western New York area, they’ve hit “the biggest dogfighting ring in Buffalo.” Twenty dogs were seized, and one unfortunately had to be put down. They also make six arrests.
“When I signed the adoption papers that day, I had no intention of becoming the 40-something that neighborhood kids sometimes call ‘The Dog Lady.’ But nearly four years later, my favorite mug says: ‘Dog Mom – my child has four legs and fur.’”
Once very lively and active, Kane now spends much of his time confined to his crate, because just moving about can lead to severe injuries. Walking causes his hips to give out frequently, causing him debilitating pain.
Murphy the boxer was reunited with his owner, Lewis Blythe, after an online campaign help raise enough funds to hire a helicopter to aid in the search.
“Luckily somebody saw this, because this is a horrible situation for a dog. This person was in the right spot at the right time,” said Capt. David Walesky for Palm Beach County ACC.
“Instead of opening up his door and saying, ‘Okay, I’m gonna wait for these boys to get back up here, I’ll just wait in my truck here,’ he just gets out and Quick Draw McGraws my dog and shoots her!” Cole Middleton exclaimed.
