Lost Dog

Mekane, a certified wilderness air-scenting dog, went missing on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, during a routine exercise in New Columbia, Penn. Though rescuers and animal lovers alike searched the area since she went missing, the rescue dog was not found until three days later.

Mekane’s owner and handler, Brenda Peachey, from Strike K-9 Wilderness Search and Rescue team, noticed the dog went missing when the pooch didn’t return from the exercise.

Jason and Tiffany Huston from Goshen, Ind., are trying to get back Prance, their Shih Tzu, after a neighbor sold the dog online. However, police say there is little they can do to help the Hustons because the online transaction was made legally and no laws were broken.

Prance became a member of the Huston family three-and-a-half years ago when the couple got married and decided to get a pet. The family moved to a mobile home community in Goshen, Ind., but Prance got lost last month while the couple was away and the dog was left with a family member.

On September 29, 2014, a small black-and-white terrier dog was found roaming the parking lot of a police station in Brighton, Mich. After the pet hitchhiked a ride in a police car, the lucky pooch found its way home.

Noran is a dog that works with the Riverside Police in California.  He had been let out of his enclosure sometime after midnight on Sunday, and apparently hopped a fence and decided to do some exploring on his own.

On Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, Police Officer Wendy Bryant, from LaGrange, Ga., and her K9 partner Chico, a Belgian Malinois, were hunting down escaped felon Lester Sullens in a wooded area when the four-legged officer went missing. The fugitive was apprehended and told police he fought off the dog and left him tied to a tree, but when authorities went to retrieve the dog, Chico was nowhere to be found. The dog was found more than 48 hours later, when little hope of finding him alive remained.
