Emaciated Ky. Dog Rescued and Saved

On July 10, 2014, Hank, an emaciated five-month-old pooch weighing less than 30 pounds was found wandering a Louisville, Ky., neighborhood. Neighbors found the sick dog and knew he needed immediate help. Concerned for the pet’s well being, residents reached out to various animal rescue organizations until they found one who agreed to help nurse the dog back to health.

The Arrow Fund saved Hank’s life. No one knows where the dog lived or how he came to be so malnourished, but rescuers agree this large breed dog should weigh about 50 pounds. When he was found, he was just a lethargic bag of skin and bones.

The skeletal pup was rushed to Blue Pearl Animal Hospital were his health is being monitored around the clock. Rescuers feared Hank could go into organ failure due to the starvation he was put through, but so far, he has shown improvement and veterinarians are hopeful the dog will make a full recovery.

“Hank is such a wonderful boy,” posted The Arrow Fund on their Facebook page. “His spirit is fantastic and it is clear that he has so much love to give! You can bet he is now receiving all the love in the world!”

The organization is working closely with Louisville Metro Police to find the dog’s previous owners and abusers. Anyone with information is asked to call the anonymous tip line at (502) 574-LMPD.

Once Hank receives a clean bill of health, he will be available for adoption but for now The Arrow Fund encourages anyone interested in helping Hank to make a donation.

Donations can be made online at www.TheArrowfund.org or mailed to P.O. Box 1127, Prospect, KY 40059.
