Timber was maliciously shot at point-blank range and then left for dead on a country road.  By the grace of all that is good on this planet, someone found him and brought him to Unleashed Pet Rescue in Mission, Kansas.

Dog Survives Getting Run Over by Stolen Van

On September 17, 2014, Gordo, a one-year-old Maltese mix from Culver City, Calif., became a victim of a high-speed chase. Police attempted to stop a stolen van and detain the drivers when the vehicle ran over the pet. The dog suffered a broken pelvis and a mangled right, hind leg. He was rushed to City of Angels Veterinary Specialty Center and veterinarians worked arduously to fix his injuries and save his leg.

At the end of August, a Pit bull mix from Lexinton, Ky., was found tied to a fence on Campbell St. What was shocking about the abandoned dog wasn’t how she was left tied to the fence, but rather the abuse she was put through prior to getting dumped. The eight-month-old dog had a profane word branded on her fur.

Saint Bernard Spends a Night Stuck in Ravine

Lyle Nelson from Washougal, Wash., lives in a 50-acre ranch, right outside town with his four rescued dogs, a Shih Tzu, a Golden retriever and two Saint Bernards. All four pets usually go out on the property with him while Nelson checks on his cattle, but on August 23, 2014, Nelson returned home with just three of his dogs. Greta, one of the Saint Bernards got stuck in a ravine and needed firefighters to come rescue her.

Car Accident Leaves Dog Paralyzed but Not Hopeless

A tragic car accident in Montgomery County, Fla., left a black mixed dog paralyzed. Ordinary people would have given up on him and turned to euthanasia, but this dog’s touching story moved many animal lovers and the paraplegic dog was given a second chance. He is now loved and on the mend.

Dog Rescued from Garbage after Surviving Dog Attack

On August 18, 2014, Tim Clifton, director of Animal Control in Clarksville, Tenn., rescued a tiny dog dumped in a garbage container. At first Clifton couldn’t identify the dog’s breed because the Yorkshire terrier was covered in blood, grease and trash. Nevertheless, the small pet was rushed to a vet clinic where his life was saved.
