On June 5, 2014, a concerned St. Louis, Mo., citizen contacted police and informed them of an abandoned dog in a garbage dumpster on the 4700 block of Hammett Place. Officers were dispatched to the location and they found a scared and malnourished female, terrier mix puppy, cowering  inside the garbage bin.

The dog was pulled from the container and taken to Stray Rescue where she is being cared for and nursed back to health. She was named Little Kimmy.

Eddie is a dog that has been saved twice now.  Once from a shelter in the Bahamas, and most recently, from traffic going along Colorado Boulevard, just before Fifth Avenue, by a local police officer.

Lt. Mark Stanmeyer says the officers will begin a new training session on the subject in September, but in an email said “but right now we are focused on homicides and non-fatal shootings.”

“Animals being spared the life of suffering at the end of a chain or at the hands of somebody in a bloody pit, where they’d ultimately lose their lives,” said Chris Schindler.

“We’re very pleased. I’ve seen a lot of the evidence in this case, and from what I’ve seen, they definitely made the right decision,” said attorney Alyson Antoon. “The evidence was overwhelming.”

The dog was saved thanks to local residents who contacted authorities when they noticed something out of the ordinary.

“Their breeds can detect trace elements that most humans cannot see or detect. Their senses are really amazing,” said Ackerman.

Police were disgusted when they walked into the backyard of the home to find a 25 to 40 people actually watching a violent and bloody dog fight match going on at around 9:30pm Tuesday.

Anyone violating the ban is officially punished under the Prevention of Cruelty to the Animals Act. Now, in another move to protect its furry family members and friends, cock and dog fighting, and other such aggressive animal activities are now added to the ban.
